THE SPARK

The Magic in Impossible

Have you ever noticed that the work we do is only as good as we are willing to make it? Every day, we have the choice to simply get the job done — or do something that sets us apart.

What sets us apart?

For some, it’s a signature style. Take Banksy, for example. His art is instantly recognizable, defined by his unmistakable stencil technique. But that style wasn’t just an artistic choice — it was born out of a desire to challenge what’s possible. Banksy needed speed and precision to publish his work quickly and avoid getting caught.

The result was the beginning of something uniquely his own.

But what sets you apart might be something simpler — like following the time-old adage: leave it better than you found it.

Cleaning up a job site after you’re done might take a little extra time. So does making sure the back-of-house is just as clean as what the guests see. But those small things matter.

Most people can’t quite put their finger on it, but they feel the difference.
It’s what makes them start to say, there’s just something different about this.

It’s the same reason a gas station mini-mart like Buc-ee’s can become a full-blown phenomenon.

It’s that attention to detail — or maybe more accurately, an obsession with detail — that starts to create real magic.

Disney was obsessed with this kind of magic too.
From meticulously laid out parks that hide every service door, to the detailed costumes worn by staff, to the psychological tricks that make buildings feel taller or closer than they really are — Disney builds its magic in the “impossible.”

In fact, they have an entire team of Imagineers whose job is literally to make the impossible possible.

“When it can’t be done, do it. If you don’t do it, it doesn’t exist.”

That’s a quote from Paul Arden’s It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be.
And it’s an attitude worth paying attention to.

Because that’s what separates the ordinary from the extraordinary.
That’s the kind of magic we need to keep chasing.

Every challenge is a chance to make magic —
not just by solving the problem,
but by leaning into the thing that feels impossible…
or even unnecessary.

Because sometimes, that extra step?
That overlooked detail?
That’s the very thing that sets you apart.

Like the detailer who stamped footprints on paper mats —
what seemed unnecessary became a standard across an entire industry.

It’s not that it can’t be done.
It just hasn’t been figured out yet.
And when you figure it out your way,
you leave a mark no one else can.
