Teddy Roosevelt reportedly read a book a day, all while serving as President of the United States.
Most of us can’t imagine finishing a book a week, let alone one a day. And yet, leading a country didn’t seem to slow him down.
Fast forward a century and you find Ryan Holiday, author and modern Stoic, who also reads a book a day. People assume it’s a superpower. His answer? Nope. It’s just time.
According to Holiday, he treats reading like eating or breathing. He keeps a book within arm’s reach at all times. He cracks it open in the slivers of the day where most of us scroll through our phone; waiting in line, for an elevator, on a commute, over lunch. That’s it. No magic. Just prioritizing reading and creating the time.
Time has always been the ultimate currency. The 2011 sci-fi movie called In Time made that point literal.. when your clock ran out, so did your life. A bit dramatic? Maybe. But it didn’t shy away from the fact that time is both our ally and our adversary. Relentlessly consistent. Completely finite.

Each of us is given the same 24 hours. Some of us trade it for distraction. Others invest it in learning, creating, or building.
Which brings me to the point of this writing. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary isn’t just talent as so many of us believe. It’s time, spent with intention.
So, you may want to ask yourself.. how are you investing your hours this week?
In the end… it’s all about time well spent, or well squandered.
